8.31.17    “Monument to the Great Auk”

Rocky Neck Cultural Center’s Goetemann Artist in Residence, Nathan Thomas Wilson, created a “Monument to the Great Auk” using found materials scavenged from the surrounding ocean area at Ocean Alliance headquarters.

Nathan Thomas Wilson talks about the great auk, a penguin like-bird, that lived in the North Atlantic, that was hunted to extinction in the 1800’s. He also talks about the materials he used to make the sculpture, and draws parallels on the extinction of the great auk to man’s destruction of our environment and climate change.
